“Your Network is your Net worth”
This is one of the statement by which Sri Ram from Christ University aims to live his life. As I ask for his story, he smiles in an amicable manner, and shakes his head. He says he doesn’t have one as such , but reminisces his life as a sequence of unfortunate events , which he has put to the best of his use. He was born and brought up in Andhra and his family consisted of his younger brother and parents. Their parents always told them the sky’s the limit and never left anything to spare for their happiness. But Sri Ram felt life wasn’t here, he wanted to carve his name out there. He wants to “leave a big footprint in the world before leaving “.
He had an intestinal surgery when he was a 9 year old kid, and after the operation he had to depend on a lot of medications, but that never broke his spirit. When he was in 9th standard, he decided to move to Hyderabad, and live in a hostel and know more about the real life in the city. After his school , he moved to the city for pre university education. He was not welcome in the hostel, often he was left alone as he was from the village, and the other kids weren’t. Being around so many people, yet being lonely amidst a crowd was the worst feeling ever. Sri Ram was a very humble person, perhaps this was what made the other people adore and bring him unto their midst, and then he had friends. Apart from ambition in life, Sri Ram loved sports. He would spend at least 8 hours in a day playing cricket, swimming and basketball. His craze was so apparent for cricket that he even joined the official Royal Challengers Fan army and met all the legends.
Sri Ram underwent another surgery when he was 17 years old and this was Backbone surgery. The doctor advised Sri Ram against playing any sport for a while, but when the condition deteriorated, he was asked to completely stop his activities for life. This was turmoil to him as this was his only form of relief when all his other responsibilities taxed him. It’s a pain to see everyone else jumping around the basketball court and boys playing gully cricket outside his house, yet he steeled his heart and waited for ambition alone. Sometimes the urge to play overtakes the advice of the doctor, and he plays in triumph, only to succumb to the pain later. After entering Christ University, he had been instilled with a hope that he would achieve his dreams by being kind to people and earning their respect. Sri Ram joined the SWO in his first year 2017, and worked for every event until he earned the title of “Head of Logistics “. To date, even though he cannot play, he helps the other players by giving them tips and shouting encouragement; and even if his hobbies are reduced to ashes, he has been optimistic. He has developed cooking as his hobby, and serves the best of continental cuisines. His mantra is “Earning and giving “. His family owns an NGO to give chances to more kids who come from similar backgrounds to come to the cities and secure a job here after their education in the NGO. Truly, Sri Ram has earned everyone’s respect for his hard work and humility.
